The opening paragraph only tells half of the story because although Grosvenor’s previous win came in November 2005 when he won the £1,525 Midland Masters Main Event in Walsall for a career-best £66,000 he is a regular on the live circuit and has plenty more impressive results to boast about.
During 2105, Grosvenor has finished 12th in the GPS Birmingham Main Event (£1,520), finished as runner-up in the GPS Newcastle Main Event (£18,250) and bust in eighth place in the GPS Edinburgh Main Event (£2,920). It’s safe to say that Grosvenor’s style of play is suited to the GPS structure.

Some 274 players turned out for the £200+£20 GPS Mini at Star City and despite the relatively low buy-in, the tournament still attracted some well-known grinders.
Scott O’Reilly (13th for £680), Harish Thaker (12th for £680), and Mark McCluskey (11th for £680) were a trio of top poker talent who returned home with some prize money to show for their efforts, while the final three players in the tournament wouldn’t have looked out of place in a tournament 10-times the size.
Those three, Waheed Ashraf, Chris “MAKKAPAKK” Johnson and Grosvenor, struck a deal when three handed that saw Grosvenor guaranteed £10,000 and his two opponents £9,000.
Ashraf, one of the biggest winners at nearby Dusk Till Dawn, collected no additional prize money because his failed to get there against Johnson’s dominating in a blind-versus-blind confrontation.
Johnson, who won the Birmingham leg of the main GPS tour in February 2015, went into heads-up with a 3.8 million to 3 million chip lead. However, 30-minutes later, it was Johnson who had been relieved of his stack and Grosvenor was crowed the tournament’s champion.
The final hand saw the chips go in preflop, Johnson holding and Grosvenor the . A final board reading saw Grosvenor improve to a straight on the river, busting Johnson and leaving Grosvenor to bask in the glory of victory.
Next up for the GPS is a trip to the Steel City of Sheffield from October 30 through November 6, 2015.
